He ended Lenins hybrid socialist/capitalist NEP (New Economic Policy) that allowed people to own property, farm their land and conduct a reasonable amount of capitalist trade.   His vision was to collectivize farming and to industrialize the country.   Peasants were reluctant to give up their property and peacefully join in the collectivization effort, so the Politburo ordered the military to force them into submission.   The party was successful in breaking the kulaks (peasants who opposed collectivization); however, their success was costly.   Displacing the peasants for the sake of collective farming proved to be counterproductive, because they were not incentivized to work hard and produce adequate food for a society that mistreated them.   In 1932 the country was in chaos.   The collectivization policies of the Stalin Revolution had uprooted society, destroyed formerly prominent social groups and classes, and abolished private property and markets in favor of a new, untested, and constantly changing form of socialism.   Millions of peasants and urban proprietors were angry and confused; millions of others had been killed or had died of starvation (Getty, Naumov 573).   The October Revolution had taken place fifteen years earlier, but the utopian, classless society Lenin described was not yet close to existing in the Soviet Union.   The USSR was not a dictatorship of the proletariat, it was a dictatorship of the Communist party and whomever was leading it at the time.   Lenin built a police state to ward off counterrevolution attempts and maintain the Bolsheviks power.   Stalin used that apparatus to purge his perceived enemies by killing or imprisoning them.   He capitalized on the states power and arrested approximately 3.5 million people and forced them to perform free labor for his series of 5 year plans.   Horrible acts of terror took place during Stalins reign, but there were some positive things that occurred as well.   The industrialization effort was greatly successful and the USSR was rapidly transformed from an agrarian society into a relevant, world power.   Another stand out achievement was the populations improvement with respect to education. Fortunately, the Soviet Union industrialized, because the country would soon find itself embroiled in World War Two.   They signed a pact with Hitler early on, but ended up joining with the Allies to defeat Germany.   They successfully stalled the Nazis advance on the eastern front and forced them to retreat while the United States and other allies assaulted the German army from the western flank.   Once the Axis powers surrendered and the war was over, the United States and the Soviet Union emerged as the worlds superpowers.  Ã‚   A long, and expensive Cold War between the two countries began and continued for the next four decades.   Each side wanted to exert their influence on post war Europe and the eventually the entire globe.   In Eastern Europe, the Soviet Union used a combination of diplomatic pressure, political infiltration, and military power to create peoples republics sympathetic to Moscow (Cole, Symes 938-939).   The satellite countries formed a shield tha t protected the Soviet Unions borders from external assaults.   Maintaining a powerful sphere of influence made sense from an ideological and military perspective, but it was extremely taxing on their economy.   For decades, they participated in arms races and fought proxy wars against their western ideological enemies. Oftentimes, that meant too many resources were committed elsewhere while severe economic conditions were taking place internally.   By the 1980s, groups in the satellite countries started protesting the Soviet Union and the Communist Partys control over their lives.   The Soviets didnt use military power to suppress their protest and the Soviet USSR eventually collapsed in 1991.   That was the end of the Bolsheviks October revolution. It successfully replaced the Tsars monarchy with a world class, military power, but it never produced a classless society.   The leadership always imposed their will on the people and they enjoyed a better lifestyle than the rank and file citizens.  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   According to author Mervyn Matthews, The Bolsheviks proclaimed aim was to create a new egalitarian society, free from the blatant injustices of capitalism, and devoid of any specifically privileged group. The Soviet people, whose fate is the concern of everyone of humanitarian views, suffered a massive deprivation of liberty in the name of this ideal.   Dreams of popular control of government were finally repressed when the Constituent Assembly was closed (Matthews 166).   The workers never self-governed, owned and administered the resources, nor did they enjoy a utopian society.   They were not exploited by big corporations or wealthy industrialist, but they were under the control of the Communist Party leadership.   Lenin, Stalin and the succeeding leaders of the Communist Party all had agendas that were dictated by their present circumstances.   Lenin knew the fledgling Bolshevik government faced many internal threats from rival political entities; therefore, he was moti vated to do what he deemed necessary to secure the viability of the revolution.   Stalin believed that the Soviet Unions long-term success was predicated on its ability to stand up to external threats; therefore, he was willing to perpetrate atrocities to make the country a relevant, world power.   The remaining leaders were entangled in a cold war with the United States and other ideological enemies, so they were not concerned with implementing the ideals of the revolution.   Instead, they were concerned about retaining power and spreading communism.  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Works Cited Cole, Joshua, and Carol Symes. Charles Causley has bought the story up to date so it appeals to people living today, especially younger people. Charles Causley changes a lot of the facts of the story, without changing the moral and message. He uses words such as newspaper, TV, election that were obviously not present at the time of the original story. When reading the Bible version it is sometimes hard to think it was not set in a different world to the one today. So he uses these modern words so people living today will be able to identify with the story. When he says bullet-proof limousine I dont think he is just using it for modernisation though. I think Charles Causley is implying that the kings were protected and safe in their journey, almost in an evil way. It signifies they have nothing in common with the people they are reigning over. It is also in contrast to how vulnerable Jesus is. The tone of the poem is amusing at the beginning. Causley uses humour in his poetry, which I believe again is to appeal to children. He creates images of God sitting in his big blue chair, Gabriel in the shiny gear and of the neighbours gossiping that Mary has been up to no good. These are funny because it is looking at the story from a new perspective. Before reading the poem you have not thought of it in this way. It brings another layer to the traditional story. During the Great Depression rapid social change led to social disorganization that led to personal disorganization, which in turn lead to deviant and criminal behavior (Crutchfield, R. D. 2008). Social control was broken because of class differences, economic problems, cultural and ethnic issues. Crime rates can be reduced by states from necessary laws and solutions to social problems. Due to crimes many people have been killed, some have been harmed by other people. The states and the laws they are governed by are there to protect individuals from harm by other individuals. To the extent that states go to try and combat crime can, at times, be seen as going a bit too far in possessing the power that needs to be shown and enacted on when a person does commit a crime (Ormeci, Ozan 2011). There has to be order in our society, but to what extent, is a person’s dignity and integrity put at risk or harmed. â€Å"Under capitalist social relations, direct political force is not necessary for the maintenance of economic exploitation: it is sufficient for the state as a force standing above society to guarantee that all members of society behave like owners of private property. However, the state must be a discrete, independent force, since it has to compel all members of society to recognize one another as private owners† (State and Capital. n. d. ). We all live under the same laws I feel that the state has to have some type of control to combat crime in society. To the extent that if infringes on peoples individual’s rights is when I feel that it should be reexamined. Ultimate control never works in my eyes. Everything that we approach in life should be closely examined before making a decision on if it will help or hinder us or others. Exploitation and dominance should not occur. The constitution of consensus and legitimacy involves not only the ruling class but also the ruled class and occurs within as well as outside of state institutions. I believe that the policies of the state can be imposed with dictatorial means against the majority of the population and disturbs the ascertainment of the capitalist general interest. Crime is a political concept designed to protect the power and position of the upper classes at the expense of the poor. So in conclusion, crime has no meaning unless people react to it and it simply is not fair to inflict suffering that is above and beyond to those less fortunate because you have the means to do so. The states and government in my opinion is there to provide order, predictability, security, and established procedures for the management of conflict. I do agree with Timmer’s definition of crime because the state has to have the responsibility of protecting people from crimes to the best of their ability.

The new technology, customer expectations, competition and sales which are external factors influenced the development of new product and improved staff turnover which are internal factors. In order to develop a new product, Corus needed new expertise and knowledge; these are factors in the Temporal Environment. According to Burnes (2004) there are two kinds of changes: incremental and continuous. The incremental change includes continuous improvement as a quality management process or implementation of new computer system to increase efficiencies. The continuous change is constant, evolving and cumulative; it is a pattern of endless modifications in work processes and social practice. Corus needs to development of new expertise and new products. The company used continuous improvement to achieve these objectives, therefore the change that Corus done is an incremental. Crundy (1993) and Senior (2002) distinguish other two types of change: smooth incremental, bumpy incremental and discontinuous change. From what we know in our case study, I think that Corus made a discontinuous change. The company was doing great until loses an essential contract with a customer. Before the contract there was a smooth atmosphere after the contract they had to response to customer expectation. Discontinuous change can be seen in the Oticon Spaghetti organisation, too. Oticon is a large, hearing instrument company with a long history. When the market grew, Oticons managers understood that the company is too traditional, departmentalized and slow-moving. In order to change that, they created the spaghetti organisation. Oticon changed the whole structure of its organisation. That is a discontinuous change, rapid change. When it comes to change, Dunphy and Stace (1993) identifies change by scale can be divided into four different characteristics: Fine-tuning Describes organizational change as an ongoing process to match the organisations strategy, processes, people and structure (Senior 2002). Coordination techniques like product groups, formal planning processes, and corporate staff become, over time, a bureaucratic system that causes delays in decision making and a reduction in innovation. Phase 5- Growth through collaboration, is characterized by the use of teams, a reduction in corporate staff, matrix-type structures, the simplification of formal systems, an increase in conference and educational programs, and more sophisticated information systems. I think that Corus is in the middle of Greiners Phase 1. The company lost one contract; therefore now it is trying to answer to customers expectation. That is growth through creativity. If Greiner is right, in the future Corus will experience leadership crisis. In order to escape from this crisis I have mentioned below the most popular leadership styles.
